Our history
In 1992, John Schoonbeek left a lucrative career in banking finance, disillusioned with the corporate environment and its accompanying lack of transparency.
At the same time, in a serendipitous twist, he was invited to join a Peninsula real estate agency at the invitation of its owners, Denis and Elsie Goodsell. Embracing a complete career change, he developed his skills whilst studying for his real estate licence, proving himself to be an honest and capable sales person. When Denis looked to retire, he invited John to buy the agency.
What John didn’t know, he learned along the way. Keeping the Goodsell name as a legacy to the people who had already made a mark on the Peninsula, at times John took a step back in order to move forward, restructuring when required and marrying a banker’s pragmatism with the entrepreneurial skills of a salesman. He knew that particular expertise in strata management was highly valued and would form the financial foundation for the company.
Fast forward, joining the agency almost two decades ago, John’s son Josh has bought his own unique skills and expertise to Goodsell Real Estate. Ten years ago, younger son Luke also came on board and together, along with their team of committed and enthusiastic property, sales and strata professionals, the Schoonbeek’s have created a family business that serves the community in which it sits.
Ours is not a unique story, but it is a story of which we are proud. And one whose chapters we will continue to write over decades to come.
